ABSTRACT |
The invention is on the dual functionalization process of the nanocrystalline dolomite and its use as nanofiller to improve the tensile toughness and bio-stability of the PEVA copolymer. A new form of material called PEVA nanocomposite is comprised of the PEVA copolymer as matrix material and the dual functionalized nanocrystalline dolomite (DF-NCD) as nanofiller. The DF-NCD has greater dispersion capability compared to the raw dolomite when being melt compounded with the PEVA copolymer. The good dispersion of nanofiller in the PEVA matrix and a homogeneous nanocomposite can be obtained with the content of DF-NCD in the range of 1 ¿ 4 wt%. The best loading of the Ps-MMT in the PEVA matrix is 3 wt%, where it results in the optimum tensile toughness and bio-stability of the PEVA nanocomposite. This PEVA/DF-NCD nanocomposite has great potential to be employed as insulation material of the electrically active implantable biomedical devices.
