A new method of ambient drying and new hydrophobic agent, hexamethyldisilazene
was used to synthesis hydrophobic silica aerogel to overcome the limitation of conventional hydrophilic silica aerogel. For this purpose the surface was modified with hexamethyldisilazane which made the surface excellent hydrophobic. Because of the hydrophobocity the chelating organic agent was immobilized with the as prepared materials with great adsorption speed and material could absorb metals with great potentiality.
