A system (100) for detecting and monitoring hazardous volatile compounds comprises an odour sensing unit (10) comprising a plurality of Molecular Imprinted Polymer (MIP) sensors (11) for sensing volatile compounds, the volatile compounds being sensed by the Molecule Imprinted Polymer (11) change the conductance of the Molecular Imprinted Polymer (MIP) sensors (11) and convert it into electrical signals related to the volatile compounds concentration, a signal conditioning circuit (13) connected to the Molecular Imprinted Polymer (MIP) sensors (11) for adjust the volatile compounds signals, and a microcontroller (15) connected to the signal conditioning circuit (13) for controlling the odour sensing unit (10), identifying and classifying the acquired data using embedded memory having pattern recognition algorithm, the wireless network (23) to enable the acquisition data to be sent wirelessly to the computer and a mobile platform carrying the odour sensing unit to maneuver through the location hazardous volatile compounds.
