ABSTRACT In typical solar and wind energy system, one energy resource is at a lower supply level while the other one is usually at a higher supply level. For instance, the weather in Malaysia is characterized by two monsoon regimes, namely, the Southwest Monsoon from late May to September, and the Northeast Monsoon from November to March. The Northeast Monsoon brings heavy rainfall and the wind speed is generally at its high level, whereas the Southwest Monsoon normally signifies relatively drier weather and the solar irradiance at its high level. In addition during the night, solar irradiance can not be utilized while the wind speed may be utilized efficiently. Hence, simultaneous utilization of multiple energy resources greatly enhances the certainly of meeting load demands. Therefore, it is critical to determine the levels of the energy resources at which the response reaches its optimum. To reach the optimum system, a photovoltaic (PV) and wind power hybrid system is suitable, it can obtain a maximum energy that produced by solar irradiance and wind speed. In this product, the PV and wind power hybrid system is controlled by PIC microcontroller that used to charge a battery and converted to be AC system using inverter. The inverter is three-level which its maximum voltage angle can be controlled by the PIC microcontroller, therefore the optimum maximum voltage angle and the lowest current total harmonic distortion (CTHD) can be obtained.
