PRODUCT NAME INDUSTRY INTEGRATED IMMERSIVE CHALLENGE BASED LEARNING (I-CBL)
ABSTRACT Engineering education increasingly demands innovative pedagogical approaches that bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge, practical applications, and industry expectations. This innovation introduces Ił-CBL (Integrated Immersive Industry Challenge-Based Learning), a structured educational framework designed to enhance students' technical competencies, professional skills, and industry readiness through authentic engineering challenges. The framework integrates two consecutive undergraduate courses, Electrical Installation Design I (EMJ33404) and Electrical Installation Design II (EMJ42202), creating a continuous learning ecosystem that connects engineering design, practical experience, project management, economic considerations, sustainability, and professional communication. Grounded in Outcome-Based Education (OBE), experiential learning, and Challenge-Based Learning (CBL), Ił-CBL adopts a progressive learning approach that transforms conventional classroom instruction into immersive, industry-oriented experiences. Students engage in real-world electrical installation projects involving site investigations, technical analysis, electrical system design, regulatory compliance, energy management, cost estimation, project scheduling, and professional presentations. Each project group receives guidance from qualified Professional Engineers, while industry stakeholders contribute through technical engagement, project evaluation, and constructive feedback. The framework incorporates a systematic Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) process to strengthen curriculum relevance and learning effectiveness. The implementation demonstrates positive educational outcomes through students' Course Outcome (CO) and Programme Outcome (PO) attainment, enhanced multidisciplinary learning experiences, and increased exposure to professional engineering practices. Its long-term relevance is further illustrated by graduates progressing into professional engineering careers and continued collaboration with industry stakeholders. Beyond individual courses, Ił-CBL offers a transferable and scalable framework for other engineering disciplines and higher education institutions. Overall, Ił-CBL provides a sustainable approach to transforming engineering education by integrating academic knowledge, authentic industry challenges, and professional competency development. The innovation supports the development of technically competent, adaptable, and industry-ready engineering graduates while contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).
