|
ABSTRACT |
Malodour from agriculture and human activities such as chicken farms is an issue that threatens the industries. The nuisance that is malodour caused by the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is an issue particularly when the farm exists near residential areas. This has induced conflicts between local authorities and local residents. The complaints normally are based on the effects of malodour to environmental pollution and on human health such as emotional stress and physical symptoms. Emissions and effort to limit malodour exposure to the neighbourhood area are the important aspects in the issue. A reliable identification and quantification technique is welcome to monitor the malodour impact on humans and the environment. This invention proposes a handheld instrument and method of malodour monitoring for chicken farms using wireless web-based system. The system can be used as a guideline to monitor the environmental pollution for the local enforcement agencies; for example, to solve the disputes between the farmers and the local people as well as monitoring the violations of environmental issues.
