High Linearity On-Chip Mixer For 4G LTE Wireless Communication
|
ABSTRACT |
The present invention is an on-chip active mixer with a very high linearity to up convert frequency for wireless transmitter applications. The design is based on Gilbert-cell active double-balanced mixer using derivative superposition method in order to improve linearity. The linearity of the designed mixer is further improved by utilizing source degeneration inductors at stage. The mixer requires only 2 dBm LO input power to achieve excellent linearity and obtain low power performance. With a 100 MHz input and a 5.1 GHz LO frequency, the input is up convert to 5.2 GHz output frequency. The mixer has a typical IIP3 of +13.5dBm, 2 dB conversion gain and a 5.4 mW power consumption. The mixer offers exceptional LO-RF isolation, greatly reducing the need for output filtering to meet LO suppression requirements. The device is designed to work at 1.8 V power supply. This product is designed to meet a specification for high linearity portable wireless transmitter.
