In this study, CNC were chemically modified through esterification to tailor their surface chemistry and improve compatibility with the PLA matrix. The modified CNC was then incorporated into PLA via direct melt extrusion. The resulting nanocomposites were evaluated with respect to nanofiller dispersion, interfacial continuity, and their mechanical and thermal performance. The findings provide further understanding of how surface esterification influences interfacial interactions and morphological characteristics, which in turn affect the overall performance of PLA-based nanocomposites.
