| ABSTRACT |
The present invention provides a method for producing hydrogen-rich synthesis gas through co-gasification of biomass and low rank coal, wherein both feedstocks are independently pretreated prior to blending and gasification. The invention comprises separate pretreatment of biomass and coal using torrefaction and/or
microwave irradiation, modification of physicochemical properties of each feedstock, blending of pretreated materials, steam co-gasification under controlled conditions . The method enables enhanced hydrogen production without the use of catalysts, due to a synergistic interaction between the pretreated feedstocks.
