Cataract is described as the formation of the cloudy material in the lens of the human eye which obstructs the passage of light. It is normally related to ageing and will lead to blindness and visual impairment if not being treated after long period. Master-apprentice training model is applied for cataract surgery training like other surgical procedures. Medical practitioners are either assist or observe in surgical operations performed by professional ophthalmologists. They usually undergo their practice in wet-labs on animal eyes which have different anatomy and mechanical properties compared with human eyes. Although it is an alternative for cataract surgery training but problems such as ethical issues on animal experimentation and high financial costs are involved. EYE-SIM is a cataract surgery simulator which provides better alternative for surgical planning and training is proposed to solve the problems above. Surgical simulator is capable to provide repetitive practice on specific surgical procedures without accumulative expenses.
