PRODUCT NAME Automatic Fruit Ripeness Determination System Using Grip Capacitive Methods
ABSTRACT The fruits ripeness classification is hard to determine. This is certainly true, for some fruits whose color have no direct correlation with its level of ripeness. The levels of ripeness can be determined by human expert, however for larger quantity inspection, this method is beyond practical. Fruit maturity had long been anticipated by the count of days from which the fruit was cultivated (flower, wrapped, fertilised or picked). To manually classify its maturity is experienced based and prone to human error. Methods which are intrusive also can give a good indication to a fruit ripeness but it be able to destroy the fruit itself and hence not presentable. For that reason, accurate automatic classification for some fruit maturity such as oil palm may be advantageous for the oil industry area. This product describes variant methods used for this purpose and the method which is proposed to enhance the measuring techniques. Feasibility study been conducted for fruits ripeness non-destructive classifier system based on capacitive properties measurement methods using parallel plate capacitor. Non-destructive fruit maturity testing system utilises the grids parallel plates to measure the capacitance differences of selected fruits using dielectrics of the fruits hence it does not destroy the texture and the nutrient of the fruit. These plates are combined with a series resistor make up as potential divider whose reading is fed upon to a computer with the aid of a DAQ from National Instruments (NI) by using LABVIEW software tools. As a result, this method is suitable to have an instrument to assess the maturity of the fruit and classify it accordingly would be a great advantage
