| ABSTRACT |
A microstrip antenna comprises a radiator plane having a plurality of circular patches formed on one surface of a microwave substrate,each circular patches including at least one split ring resonator ; a groungd plane disposed below and spaced from the other surface to leave the microwave substrate an air gap of predetermined thickness between the microwave substrate and the ground plane; the air gap being maintained by insulating fixing means between the microwave substrate and the ground plane ; and a coaxial cable that passes through the ground plane for supplying an electromagnetic signal to the circular patches on the radiator plane ; wherein the dimension of the air gap being optimized for increasing bandwidth and gain of the microstrip antenna; and the coaxial cable passing through a predetermined location of the ground plane for impedance matching.
