PRODUCT NAME Enantioselective Extraction Of Chiral Hypertension Drugs Using Continuous Static Mixer
ABSTRACT Amlodipine is a chiral drug belonging to the general class of Calcium Channel Blockers (CCB), are biochemical heterogeneous group of drug that selectively blocks the influx of calcium ion into cells by voltage-operated channels in cardiac and smooth muscle. They are widely used in the management of angina pectoris and hypertension. However, the use of amlodipine has been associated with side effects such as headache , dizziness and peripheral edema. It has has been reported that the (R)-amlodipine has shown to release nitric oxide in the peripheral blood vessels which may lead to peripheral edema. Hence, in order to reduce the incidences of peripheral edema and other side effects, it is very important to separate (R-amlodipine from racemic mixture(R,S)-amlopidine. Due to the demand of single enantiomer drug(speciality for CCB_ in pharmaceutical industry, the development of optical resolution by enantioselective extraction using an immiscible extractant containing chiral selectors may offer good advantage. The dispersion of one immiscible phase into the other creates a high interfacial area which consideribly increases the rate of extraction. The application of Static Mixer as in-line contancting device for continuous liquid/ extraction will maximiae mixing efficiency of organic/acqueous solutions. The Static Mixer offers high interphase mass transfer betweem immiscible phases which currently being used in a wide range of chemical process Aluminium-graphite composite heat spreader for electronic packaging material application
