PRODUCT NAME PA-AAO Capacitance DNA Sensor
ABSTRACT A novel `PRACTICAL INTELLIGENCE¿ MEASUREMENT INSTRUMENT is an instrument to assess and evaluate students¿ ability to diagnose and repair the circuit faults based on their `practical intelligence¿ after performing laboratory experiments, by measuring some aspects of students¿ practical knowledge related to the laboratory tasks. This instrument contains an incomplete circuit with some faults. There are 5 deliberately introduced faults in the circuit, each of which the E-CIP (Unit IP) Confidential participants had to diagnose and repair. There is a battery at point 1, a spring terminal at point 2, a screw terminal at point 3, connection terminal at point 4 and a bulb at point 5. Each point had to be connected by wires. The light would illuminate if the circuit completed. The participants are provided with an experiment handout. To succeed in repairing the circuit and diagnosing the faults, it is predicted that the participants had to use their `practical intelligence¿ (implicit, tacit knowledge and experience) which had been acquired (in part) during the laboratory exercises. An automated scale is build to measure participants¿ performance. The scale for each diagnosis exercise was reviewed by experts in electrical and electronics laboratories. This effective ways to measure practical intelligence from laboratory experiences would provide a third means to evaluate engineering laboratory class outcomes, beyond the established methods of comparing student performance in explicit assessment tasks (e.g. reports, tests) and measurement of student perceptions of their laboratory experience. The novel idea can also be used to predict the performance of skill workers or to select experience workers for some specific technical job
