| ABSTRACT |
In this project, a new transducer device based on optical Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) has been used for monitoring the train wheel condition. This product is design as direct sensing elements to respond on strain which can be used in many applications such as monitoring the defects or cracks of train wheel. Different condition of wheel will result different pattern of wavelength shifting. As a result, the defect of wheel can be immediately detected before it can cause the derailment. This sensor device is not only practical as it is light in weight, small and rugged; it also has high sensitivity which is leads result accuracy.
