PRODUCT NAME Silica Powder
ABSTRACT Blast furnace slag(BF Slag) is a major waste produced by iron and steel industry, which is also a valuable resource for recycling and utilizing. The selective recovery of some components of the BF Slag may be considered as a further oppurtunity of recovering and valorising this industrial waste. This BF slag was obtained from Ann Joo Integrated Steel Sdn Bhd Penang. Bf Slag is rich in silica (30%-40% and can be economically viable raw material for production of silica powders. Silica powder is a chemical formula SiO2. It has been known since ancient times. Silica is commonly found in nature as quartz, as well as in various living organism. silica is one of the most complex and most abundant families of materials, existing both as several minerals and being produced synthetically. Silicon dioxide is obtained by minig and purification of the resulting mineral. Quartz comprises more than 10% by mass of the earth crust. it is also produced, almost always via the processing of quartz, synthetically on a very large scale. therefore, this invention contributes the value for environment because it reduces the virgin materials used in the manufacture of silica powder and reduce disposal. the used of slag turns waste into wealth. meanwhile the production of carbon dioxide can be reduce. conventional methods for the preparation of amorphous silica are very energy intensive and expensive. Amorphous silica has wide industrial application, with annual world consumption in the excess of 1 million tonnes valued at RM4,500 per tonne. this invention are more economical which only cost RM125 per tonne
