ABSTRACT |
The current global consumption of plastic is more than 200 milin tones with an annual grow of approximately 5%, which represents the largest field of application for crude oil. It emphasis how depent the plastic industy is on oil and cosequently how the increasing of crude oil and natural gas price can have an economical influence on the plastic market. It is becoming increasingly important to utilize alternative raw materials. Until now petrochemical based plastic have been increasingly used as packaging materials because their large availability but give problem to environment. The growing environmental awareness imposes to packaging and process both user friendly and eco-friendly attributes. As a consequence biodegradability is not only a functional requirement but also an important environmental attribute. Development of biodegrdable packaging materials from renewable natural resources has received.
Cocopack is coconut shell natural cellulose biodegradable polymer packaging materials. Coconut shell was one of the lignocellulose filler, which was agriculture crop abundance in Malaysia. The coconut shell packaging was produced by mixing coconut shell with polylactic acid . The novelties of cocopack are cost effective, non-toxic, biodegradable, compostable, water proof and sustainable.
