The invention discloses an automated hygienic hand wash system (100) having a first mode of operation for normal wash, a second mode of operation for washing using soap, and a third mode of operation for ablution. A water-dispensing unit (102) having an infrared sensor (110) releases water through a water outlet (112) when user's hand is detected in the first mode of operation. A cleaning fluid dispensing unit (104) having a cleaning fluid storage container (116) dispenses a cleaning fluid and water through the water outlet (112) in the second mode of operation. An ablution sensor unit (106) allows the user to perform ablution by dispensing metered quantity of water through the water outlet (112) in a third mode of operation of the automated hygienic hand wash system (100). Three indictors (108) provide visual indication of the plurality of modes of operation of the automated hygienic hand wash system (100).
